This year’s RSM Alumni Day, on Friday 11 April, is designed as a ‘high performance boot camp- a one-day power injection of knowledge and skills’. This fun, intensive day will boost your personal performance and your fitness to lead in your team and organisation! You also get a unique opportunity to strengthen your core network, build new connections throughout the RSM alumni network, and to experience the very best of RSM Executive Education.

Boom! Goes the Future.

The ‘final performance’ of RSM Alumni Day 2014, reflects the new reality of our working lives. Today, business is like an ongoing improvisation where speed, flexibility and agile thinking and action are creating the future. And the same goes for being part of the RSM alumni network: more than ever before, your engagement and energy are driving the future of our School’s education, reputation, and sustained top performance!

This interactive performance is a co-creation of Boom Chicago and RSM. It will hold up a mirror to the increasingly important role alumni play in the competitive business school landscape and it will create a fun and comedic framework for dialogue, discussion, and fresh ideas. Meanwhile, you’ll effortlessly learn the basics of improvisational thinking that you can carry into your work and your life.

Best Networking. Ever.

Every RSM Alumni Day, the networking is one of the chief sources of enjoyment and enrichment for participants from our alumni network. For 2014 the format really enhances this: because you and all the other alumni in attendance will participate in an identical programme the networking couldn’t be more stimulating. RSM alumni from all years and all areas of business will participate in these highly interactive sessions, so you get the broadest perspectives and the greatest potential for making new connections and strengthening existing friendships within the alumni network. In addition, we have factored in longer periods for socialising, culminating in the evening’s cocktails and dinner.

Navigating Family Businesses at the Crossroads

Share Button

Family businesses find themselves at the crossroads at various points in their entrepreneurial development. Every generation will need to make big decisions and strategic choices about succession, governance, retaining family ownership, strategic changes or large investments. Unlike other businesses, family members or family (founder) characteristics influence decision making at these crossroads.

The symposium organised by the Erasmus Centre for Family Business (ECFB) in partnership with FBNed on Friday 7 March 2014 will offer (next generation) leaders of family businesses, and (future) family business shareholders the opportunity to interact with our keynote speakers and RSM researchers, share ideas, get new insights for family businesses on this topic and network with each other.

Leading Family Firms into the Future

The future of our economy is in the hands of family firms. The future of family firms is in the hands of the next generation.

By their nature, family firms hold vast amounts of intellectual capital. Their activities account for one third of Fortune 500 companies. In the EU, 80% of companies are family firms, accounting for 75% of all employment. In the Netherlands, 69% of firms are family owned (excluding self-employed entrepreneurs), and they are estimated to contribute to over half of the Dutch national product each year.

The role of the newly-formed Erasmus Centre for Family Business is to research this – and other aspects of family-run businesses – to promote the development and long-term viability of family businesses around the world. A particular focus will be on developing leader capabilities for the next generation.

“We want to increase awareness of the study of family business to the academic and practitioner communities, and highlight its importance to the economy. Our interests lay in the challenges involved in responsible ownership through teaching, development of educational materials, and outreach activities in order to ensure the viability of family businesses around the world,” says Scientific Director Dr Vanessa Strike.

The Erasmus Centre for Family Business (ECFB) launches on Friday, 30 November with speakers and a panel discussion exploring the importance of the next generation in leading family firms. They will address the question: how can we ensure the success of the next generation in leading family firms?
