SETalks 2018
New technologies for storing and transporting energy are the key to a sustainable energy system. A student, a scientist and an entrepreneur present their ideas: get inspired!

A serious issue with common sustainable energy resources like solar panels is their weather-dependency: on sunny days they generate too much energy, on rainy days it’s not enough. In the current system, supply and demand do not meet. New technologies for storing and transporting energy are therefore required. In short 10-minute talks, entrepreneur Robin Bergh, TU/e-student Luc Brinkman and a researcher Gerard van Rooij present new inventions and insights for sustainable energy storage and conversion.

Innovating towards zero

In December 2015 the world united to fight climate change in The Paris Agreement. 195 Countries agreed to the world’s first universal action plan to tackle climate change by limiting global warming to ‘well below 2°C’. This historical achievement was just the beginning – now every country must turn their promises into action.

The European Union set key targets for 2020, 2030 and a long-term goal. One of these targets concerns a cut in the greenhouse gas emissions. One of the well-known and important greenhouse gasses is CO2, the emission of CO2 is high and needs to be reduced rapidly. The problem is that for this reduction our economy, lifestyle and infrastructure need to change. How are we going to do this? What do we need to achieve this goal? And is it possible to maintain our current way of living if we want to do so? We will look for answers at the Energy Now congress 2017 ‘Innovating towards zero’. The day will be divided in theme lines with topics such as offshore wind, urban energy and micro grids.

As a warm-up to the Energy Now conference we present three SETalks in cooperation with Studium Generale.

Karsten van Asdonk will introduce you to mechanisms that prevented the breakthrough of brilliant ideas the last century. Researcher dr. Ankit Kumar will tell about successful introduction of smart grids in India.  Thom Sabel (Amber Mobility) will present your personal car on-demand system.

During their 10-minute presentations the speakers will present new inventions and insights that will contribute to the future energy transition. Get inspired!

Symposium Craig Morris ‘Energy Democracy’
